CMPAC joined nearly 60 leading civil society organizations, corporations, experts, and academics in signing an open letter calling for the withdrawal of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) and urging for a full public consultation. AIDA, bundled into the government’s proposed privacy legislation, Bill C-27, has been criticized for its hasty and flawed approach, lacking democratic legitimacy. The letter emphasizes the need for open public consultation on such impactful legislation and criticizes the government’s introduction of AIDA without allowing stakeholders the opportunity to provide input beforehand. CMPAC, along with other signatories, urges the government to withdraw AIDA from Bill C-27 and initiate a thorough consultation process to address concerns and incorporate stakeholder feedback before reintroducing a revised and improved AIDA.
